Missing teeth is both a functional and esthetic issue. Firstly from an esthetic point of view, a large space can cause someone to hide their smile. Missing teeth will also allow the adjacent teeth to shift, often altering the bite and possibly lead to periodontal issues. Bone loss and loss of soft tissue support are also common manifestations of missing teeth, often giving a patient a sunken facial appearance.

One solution for this problem is a partial denture if one or more teeth are missing or a complete denture if all the teeth are missing. These prosthesis use artificial teeth to fill any missing spaces and help support the tissues affected. Overall there will be an improvement in esthetics, chewing, facial support and maintaining the existing teeth in their proper alignment.
