What You Should Know About the CDCP
Once enrolled, the welcome package you receive from Sun Life will include the date you can start seeing an oral health provider. Appointments can only be scheduled on or after your coverage start date.

How can I enrol?
Eligible individuals can apply online: Visit the Canada Revenue Agency application page for the CDCP.
Please note:
This is not a free dental program. Depending on your adjusted family net income, patients may have to make a co-payment of up to 60%. You may also have to pay costs that the CDCP does not cover.
The CDCP does not cover all dental services. Before you start any treatment, you should understand your dental care costs. Please let us know if you plan to use the CDCP benefits.
CDCP Renewal – Opens April 15, 2026
As part of the Canadian Dental Care Plan's eligibility process, clients must renew annually to confirm continued eligibility. The renewal period for the 2026 - 2027 benefit year runs from April 15 to June 1, 2026.
Eligible clients must renew their coverage to avoid a break in benefits. If you are currently covered, you will receive a letter from the Government of Canada with instructions on how to renew.
Renewal Process for CDCP
Before renewing, make sure your information is up to date:
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Client number
- Address
- Marital status (if applicable)
- Phone number and/or email address
To renew your coverage:
- File your 2025 tax return (and your spouse/common-law partner's, if applicable)
- Ensure you have received your 2025 Notice of Assessment
- Submit your renewal by June 1, 2026

What to Expect After Renewal
If you remain eligible, you will receive a confirmation letter outlining:
- Your coverage period
- Your co-payment level (based on 2025 income)
- Your coverage start date
This coverage is generally valid until June 30, 2027, unless eligibility changes.
Important Coverage Verification
Coverage may need to be verified before receiving services.
- If you are no longer eligible or have not renewed, coverage may be interrupted
- Claims submitted after coverage ends may not be covered
- Renew on time to avoid disruption in care
